CMAT 2018 · Logical Reasoning · Medium · Logical Reasoning
Based on the statement given below which of the following option is correct:- Whenever Preeti's father is in town, she abstains from school and goes to her aunt's house.
A) If Preeti has not abstained from school or she has not gone to her aunt's house, it means that her father is not in town. B) If Preeti has not abstained from school but her father is in town, then she will definitely go to her aunt's house. C) If Preeti has abstained from school but she has not gone to her aunt's house, it means that her father is not in town. D) Both (A) and (C)
- A.
a
- B.
b
- C.
c
- D.
Both (a ) and (c )
D
Explanation
Father in town (Abstains from school AND Goes to aunt's house). Contrapositive: NOT (Abstains AND Goes to aunt's house) Father not in town. NOT (Abstains AND Goes to aunt) = (Not abstained OR Not gone to aunt). Thus Statement (a) is logically equivalent. Statement (c) also correctly concludes that if she hasn't gone to her aunt's house, her father cannot be in town. Therefore, both (a) and (c) are valid inferences.
