Given below are two statements: One is labelled as Assertion (A) and the other is labelled as Reason (R).

"I wish it were possible."

Assertion (A): Despite the fact that the above sentence lacks subject-verb concord, as per the English Grammar, it is a syntactically correct sentence. Reason (R): It is a syntactically correct sentence because in subjunctive mood (of verb) even singular subject is followed by a plural verb.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

    Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A)

  2. B.

    Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is NOT the correct explanation of (A)

  3. C.

    (A) is true but (R) is false
