Triangle Geometry Statements

CMAT 2025 · Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation · Medium · Quantitative Aptitude

Given below are two statements : Statement I : The perimeter of a triangle is greater than the sum of its three medians. Statement II : In any triangle ABC, if D is any point on BC, then AB+BC+CA>2ADAB + BC + CA > 2AD.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :

  1. A.

Both Statement I and Statement II are true

  2. B.

Both Statement I and Statement II are false

  3. C.

Statement I is true but Statement II is false

  4. D.

Statement I is false but Statement II is true

Answer

A

Explanation

Statement I: Perimeter of a triangle is always greater than the sum of its medians. This is a standard theorem. (True)

Statement II: In △ABD\triangle ABD, AB+BD>ADAB + BD > AD. In △ACD\triangle ACD, AC+CD>ADAC + CD > AD. Summing these: AB+(BD+CD)+AC>2AD  ⟹  AB+BC+CA>2ADAB + (BD + CD) + AC > 2AD \implies AB + BC + CA > 2AD. (True)

Both statements are true.
