Milk and Water Vacated Percentage

CMAT 2024 · Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation · Medium · Arithmetic

A vessel of 160 L is filled with milk and water. 70% of milk and 30% of water is taken out of the vessel. It is found out that the vessel is vacated by 55%, then the quantity of milk and water in the original mixture is

  1. A.

    Milk = 100 L; Water = 60 L

  2. B.

    Milk = 60 L; Water = 100 L

  3. C.

    Milk = 90 L; Water = 70 L

  4. D.

    Milk = 70 L; Water = 90 L

Answer

A

Explanation

Let original quantity of milk be MM and water be WW. M+W=160M + W = 160.

Amount removed =0.70M+0.30W=55% of 160=88= 0.70M + 0.30W = 55\% \text{ of } 160 = 88.

Multiply M+W=160M + W = 160 by 0.300.30: 0.30M+0.30W=480.30M + 0.30W = 48.

Subtracting the equations: 0.40M=40  ⟹  M=100 L0.40M = 40 \implies M = 100\text{ L}. W=160−100=60 LW = 160 - 100 = 60\text{ L}.
