Sheela purchases two varieties of apples - A and B - for a total of Rupees 2800. The weights in kg of A and B purchased by Sheela are in the ratio 5:85 : 8 but the cost per kg of A is 20%20\% more than that of B. Sheela sells A and B with profits of 15%15\% and 10%10\% respectively.

Explanation

Let weights be 5x5x and 8x8x. Let cost per kg of B be yy, so for A it is 1.2y1.2y. Total Cost = (5x)(1.2y)+(8x)(y)=6xy+8xy=14xy=2800  ⟹  xy=200(5x)(1.2y) + (8x)(y) = 6xy + 8xy = 14xy = 2800 \implies xy = 200. Cost of A = 6xy=12006xy = 1200, Profit on A = 15%×1200=18015\% \times 1200 = 180. Cost of B = 8xy=16008xy = 1600, Profit on B = 10%×1600=16010\% \times 1600 = 160. Total Profit = 180+160=340180 + 160 = 340.
