The average age of three friends is 20 years and their ages are in the proportion 2:3:5. The age of the oldest friend is:

Explanation

Let the ages of the three friends be 2x2x, 3x3x, and 5x5x.

The sum of their ages = 3×20=603 \times 20 = 60 years.

2x+3x+5x=60  ⟹  10x=60  ⟹  x=62x + 3x + 5x = 60 \implies 10x = 60 \implies x = 6

The age of the oldest friend is 5x=5×6=305x = 5 \times 6 = 30 years.
